How to Get You From Reading One Page a Day to One Book a Week

Are your books piling up on your shelf throwing a dust-collecting party?

Try this ultimate hack I learned from BJ Fogg, leading habit researcher and author of the NYT Best Seller “Tiny Habits”:
To make a new habit stick, such as reading books, you need to create a habit loop, which consists of three key ingredients: 


Prompt

When you make your bed in the morning, place a book you’ve been wanting to read on your bed. 

(Tiny) Behavior

When it’s bedtime and you’re heading over to your bed, you read just one (!) page. That’s it. Easy peasy.
You can do it!

CELEBRATION

That’s it. Do one page for the first week, two pages for the second week, etc.

ps—I now even add a second prompt, setting an alarm at 9pm. As soon as the alarm goes off, I walk over to my bedroom, dragging a blanket over the floor to let Ernie jump in the bed, and once I get to my bed, voila: there’s the book saying “hi there. Who’s ready for a serious reading party?” This is how I started my reading habit, and it’s an absolute game changer.
